Reflection - Test #3 - July 10

Discuss your thoughts on taking Test #3. Were you prepared for it? If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation? If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test? In addition, discuss your thoughts of today's activities.

  1. I was prepared for Test#3 because I started a few days ahead. Though I did struggle writing my expository essay I completed the assignment. I came into class with all the three stages of writing and my Final Draft. I used listing, outlining and thesis, and my rough draft peer reviewed.

In today's activities we talked about what we learned from doing Test #3 and we read our thesis. I found the expository essay to be the hardest to write out of the 3 essays we did.

    1. It's always good to start ahead of time. I didn't do this and ended up leaving my written paper at home in my bag. I had to take the test in class.

  2. I wasn't prepared for the test, but I somehow got it finished. I though the test was due next Monday like every other test. My strategy was to pick a topic that will make me want to speak. My topic originally was suppose to be why I admire a particular person, but then I didn't have enough information on the person I admire. So, I changed my topic to Why teens join a gang?. The words started flowing out of my mouth on that topic

    1. I chose why teens wear makeup, but I did not have any information. I was searching about it on the internet. You could stay with your first topic that you chose if you also search about it.

    2. I just realized we had 2 tests in one week.

  3. This expository essay needs a lot of back ground information to support the main topic. I gathered many ideas and data from the internet, so I could write a better essay.

we learned that we have to write positive comment on blog entry today.

  4. I felt prepared when taking Test #3. For Test #3, my topic was "Major Stressors in a Teenager's Life." I enjoyed this essay because I not only wrote about something I personally experience daily, but I was able to find ways to manage stress and anxiety in a healthy way. What was challenging about writing this essay was trying not to sound so redundant within my paragraphs. What I found most enjoying about this essay was that is was written based on experience. As a teenager, I endure a tremendous amount of stress, but that stress can also be healthy.

In today's class, each classmate shared their topic, thesis, and what they have learned when writing this essay. It is interesting to hear that many people wrote about the same topic, but from different angles. Three tests down, one to go!

    1. I was prepared for Test#3 as well but this essay was the most challenging out of the 3 we did so far. I had the same problem as well, I had to go back on my essay because I was being redundant and it took me a while to edit and revise my work. Hopefully this test will prepare me for the argumentative essay coming up.

  5. I was unprepared. I did not take full advantage of the time given to complete the essay and I know I could have done better if I have.I went to the writing lab and found out that I use words like all and almost to often when I write. She also told me that I need to work on my thesis.

  6. I was prepared for this essay. The topic I choose was Why do Teenage Girls Wear Makeup? I choose this topic because I know a lot about this topic because I am a teenage girl. Even though I know so much about this topic I still have to have some facts to back it up. Like even though if you are a well know scientist you should still have past research and facts to improve you experiment and the results you receive.

    1. I agree that people should have facts and resources to support their claims. WIth information, people would be less confused as to what is fact or opinion. Knowing the distinction between fact and opinion is important, because it helps promote accurate knowledge and understanding on various subjects.

    2. I should have chose the topic that I already know about, but it was good to know why teen wears makeup include you.

  7. I was prepared. I just had a hard time putting my essay together. You would think that you would know what to say. I just wanted to stress the importance of my grand-mother in my life without over sharing. I am laughing out loud. I hope it is acceptable and get some credit on it. I just posted a positive post.

  8. This test was a lot easier than the first. I had ample time to prepare for it and I also took advantage of doing it at home, then submitting it on test day. My only concern is my sources and whether they are sufficient in supporting my thesis. But I'm content that it has passed and that I did my best.

Class today was lively. It seems like this class brings out the best in everyone, or their true selves, at least that is how I'm seeing it.

Wishing everyone a great weekend. Don't forget to moodle tomorrow. Stay positive, cheers!

    2. My essay was also opinionated. Our class had so much energy today! It's nice to see how comfortable everyone has become.

    3. I also agree everyone seemed a bit happy today. Maybe because we see the light at the end of the tunnel.

    4. most of us prepared well since the test#1, we have to prepare for the test#4 next week now!

  9. I was slightly more prepared for Test # 3 than I was with Test 2, but I think that getting into the flow of writing about opinions instead of facts affected my essay. I think that the next time I write an essay for a test, i'll try to expand as much as I can and research more about the topic even if I know a lot about it.

      Cheers!

    3. I made the same mistake as well. My essay was more opinionated then facts. The next test I will be sure to make up my topic with facts. This test was a learning experience for me.

  10. For test three I did not fully prepared as I suppose to. However, informative essay was my favorite out of four major essay. I already know the topic I will write about and I already have strong three support to backup my topic. I had fun while I write this essay and I believe this is my best essay out of four major essay.
For today's activity we shared about our essay. We talked about what is the topic, these, and what we learned. As I mentioned last time, I like to share and listen what other people learned. From that point I can learn from them.

    1. I like listening to our classmates information about their essays, too. I enjoy listening to their points of view, which might differ from my point of view. I believe that listening to other points of view will help me develop a wider perspective of the world or certain topics.

    2. Not only do you learn how to write the actual essay when writing essays, but you learn more on the topic you're doing as well.

    3. I know what you mean. When you have so much information it is hard to fashion all this information into a structured sentence.

  12. I expected the expository essay to be easy but I guess I could say that I was not as prepared as I thought. My topic is on the "Major Stressors in a Teens' Life". Although I experience stress on a daily basis, I've learned to just stay positive. Next time, I will elaborate more on my topic and cite my source.

Today's activities consisted of discussing our topic, thesis, and what we've learned while writing our paper.

    1. I agree that staying positive during stressful situations is the right action to do. I also experience stress everyday, but I found that stress is manageable with a positive outlook and attitude. If I did not stay positive throughout stressful situations, I am sure that I would be even more stressed.

    2. Underestimating anything will have us unprepared. Always expect the worst and hope for the best. Citing is a definite must in the next essay.

  13. I was nervous while I did the take home test for Test #3, because I did not know the distinction between expository and argumentative essays. However, I was prepared, because I had resources and strategies I could use. The resources and strategies I used were similar to the resources and strategies I used on the other tests, which were Internet resources, and COPS and HOTSHOT CAT as strategies. In today's class, we presented the the basic information about our tests. I found that most of the class' essay topics were similar, which I thought was interesting.

  14. For test number three I was prepared in the sense that I did the essay, but not in how I did it. Next time I will read more into how it is suppose to be done and not just assume. My fourth test will definitely be my best after the last three test. Overall, good day and good class.

  15. This test was interesting because i found it challenging researching about it. However, it did bring to my attention the huge influence of music to today's society. I am also concerned because i did not source much of my essay, it was more of personal opinions and my time frame of how music influenced me.

I enjoyed today's class everyone looked like they had fun.

I encourage everyone to keep it up!!

    1. I had the same problem as well. I did not research a lot on my topic and it was more of what I thought. In Test#4 I will be sure to do my research.

    2. I also thought that finding information for my topic was challenging. Even thought there were many resources I could use, I had to spend time looking for relevant information. Furthermore, choosing the right information out of a myriad of resources was difficult for me.

  16. I would say I was half prepared and unprepared. The only difficult part about this essay was choosing a topic. I also completely forgot about doing research on it and citations. I probably shouldn't be doing my essays at 1 am anymore so I can put more time into the essays.

By the way, I was the one who posted a post the was not positive. I apologize for that because I'm blunt and sometimes I don't realize that I'm being blunt. From now on, I'll try to use my filter in my head and post more positive posts. Again, I apologize.
