Test number two was better than test number one because I took advantage of taking home exam. The first test I did not the advantage given to us, ans was not prepared for the test. However, this time I did prepare and used the strategies which are outlining and cluttering. Use strategy of cluttering helped me wrote all my idea down, and outlining helped me organize what I will write in my five paragraph. I believe next time I will sill use this two strategy.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities was telling the classmate what is the topic and thesis statement, and what we learned while we preparing. I liked it and it was helpful to know what other people learned.
COMMUNICATE
I'm pretty sure you meant clustering, but I agree clustering helped me write down my ideas
DeleteI agree, when our classmates shared their stories I really learned more about them. I got to see what they thought of a narrative essay and some of the thoughts they shared I agreed with as well. For stage one I use listing and when I use clustering I feel it's not a effective when I'm writing my essays.
DeleteI like using outlining as a strategy as well. I find that outlining my thoughts helps me think more clearly than if I were to write my essay without organizing my ideas. Also, I do not use clustering, but I think it is a good free writing strategy, as it helps writers connect and expand their ideas.
DeleteI agree that the stages help you format your essay a lot better too!
DeleteIt is always helpful knowing what others have learned in the same academic environment as that which we are learning in. It provides, among other things, further insight into what we might have missed.
DeleteI was prepared for test#2 because I did my paper of few days ahead. I had a lot of time to do my paper and it really helped. I came into class with all my stages of writing and once class started I was ready to present. The strategies I used were listing, outline& thesis, and the peer review.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities we read our thesis and what were learned in writing our paper.
Even I prepared but next time I will do better like take time and use the strategy of peer review.
DeleteShort and to the point, very well said.
DeleteI felt just as prepared for Test #2 as I did with Test #1. What was difficult about writing this essay was pulling out key events to create and support the purpose of my essay. I believe that as humans, narration is innate in us. Narration goes hand in hand with description and without one or the other, one would not be able to compose an effective essay.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities involved sharing my topic and thesis of my essay and hearing the topic and thesis of other classmates' essays.
I was just as prepared for Test #2 as I was for Test#1 as well. I completely agree, when writing a narrative you must be descriptive. I had a difficult time supporting the purpose of my memorable journey essay as well.
DeleteI wish i got to be prepared with test 1 like test 2!
DeleteTest 2 was easier than taking Test 1, mainly because I had more time to work on it at home. I'm not great under pressure, especially when taking a test. I was more prepared for this test because I wrote it in the comfort of my home. Next time I would like to have my paper peer reviewed by more than one person. The writing process definitely helped me when I was writing this essay. I felt like I couldve added more to the story, but I didn't want it to go over the page limit.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities were interesting because we got to hear some of other people's essays.
I'm not good under pressure as well, and this is why I prefer take home tests. Writing in the comfort of my home really helps me. The three stages of the writing process helps my paper to be well organized.
DeleteI think I should have my essay reviewed by more than one person as well. Getting another person's perspective on my essays would be incredibly helpful. The second person checking my essay could find the mistakes that I and the first person checking my essay missed.
DeleteHaving more than one person peer review my essay really helps me. Aside from having a classmate peer review, I also allow my mom to review my paper. The essays other classmates wrote were very interesting.
DeleteHmmm.. I never thought of that, having more than one person peer review my essay. That is a wonderful idea. Thank you for the suggestion.
DeleteAll this time, I have been having one of my peers review my essays when I could have had multiple review them. I didn't even know we had a limited number of pages our essays could have.
DeleteI did prepare for test number #2, but at the last moment. I started and finished my test yesterday. I procrastinated the entire last week because we had a family friend over who was going to leave in a week. So, we had to spend a lot of time cheering him. For this test, I didn't use the writing process worksheet. I just started writing the essay without stage one and two.
ReplyDeleteStarting my essay with stage one and two really helps me become more organized and makes my essay more well thought out. I find it hard to backtrack when writing my essay but that's just me. Stage one and two makes it easier for me to write my paper.
DeleteI for one elect the use of the Writing Process Worksheet in all my essay's. I find it very helpful in providing me with a writing structure, or format if you will.
DeleteI do my essays last minute as well and I don't use the writing process worksheet strategy either.
DeleteThis test was a lot more interesting for me because i prepared it before bringing it to class. With test number 1 i was caught off guard and was not able to portray the right message and list of words for my essay. With this one i felt more prepared with doing stage one and stage two and it helped me format and write my whole essay better. I noticed when you add great detail and a colorful array of words it makes your essay that much more interesting to listen or read to. Also using metaphors and similes will give it an edge. I really enjoyed writing this essay mainly because it was writing about a memorable journey.
ReplyDeleteFLAVOR
I was prepared for Test #2, because I did the take home test. I found that narrative writing was easier than descriptive writing. I used the Writing Process Worksheet to compose my narrative essay. In addition, I checked the textbook to read examples and see the format I was supposed to follow. Furthermore, I used COPS to check my work when I was editing.
ReplyDeleteToday's class was short and interesting, and I thought that my classmates' narrative essays were very engaging.
Another things I learned today from you-
Delete1. Read Writing Process Worksheet
2. Read text book
3. Use more strategies we learned in the class
When in doubt, the textbook is always a good reference.
DeleteToday, I was more prepared for Test #2 than I was for Test #1. I hope to get more motivated until the end of the course. The my reading lab is very discouraging to me. Today's festivities were of the norm. We presented and blogged on our class blog spot. Keep going guys! We can do it!
ReplyDeleteYes, we can do it. There is always a space to improve, let's help each others out.
DeleteWe can do it! Just two more weeks. I also feel discouraged when using myreadinglab. Sometimes I feel like I am doing something wrong.
DeleteI feel the same way too.
DeleteYea, keep going. We can totally do it.
DeleteWe can do it all.
DeleteI did better than other test on this time. I think I prepared well because I kept thinking what happened, and imagined how I felt that moment. Also, I asked to my friends what we exactly did during that moment. I was trying to make that readers are in the story, so I could write narratively well on this test. In today class, we were talking what we wrote and how we did for the test#2. we talked about the topic, thesis, and what we have learned from these essays.
ReplyDeleteI was more prepared for Test #2. I definitely took advantage of the take home test because I don't really work well under pressure. I used all the strategies because it helped narrow all my ideas. Also, I felt like Test #2 was easier because I had so much to write about. That's why I had four pages instead of two.
ReplyDeleteToday's class was straight to the point. We presented our topic, thesis, and what we learned. I enjoy sharing my life story because you never know who else is going through the same experience and would like to speak up but can't.
Same here. I think we should keep up our work, continue with the next two exam coming up.
DeleteWow, four pages is a lot.
DeleteI do not work well under pressure either. I usually get extremely nervous, so I make a lot of mistakes while I write essays during tests. Additionally, in my opinion, I make more mistakes during tests, because I do not notice them, as I do not have another person to peer review my essay.
DeleteI agree with you Brittney. It is also difficult for me to work under pressure. Props to Josh for always taking the in class test.
DeleteWriting narrative essays was a challenge to me!
DeleteWow, 4 pages is a lot! But props for the extra effort and doing a little more than what is required.
DeleteI always thought I didn't work well under pressure but at the inconvenience of having to, I actually do pretty well. Maybe it's all in our head. Mentality is key.
DeleteWithe every test we take we become better at it. I think the Narrative essay was the easiest because it based off on own experiences so we are more knowledgeable about the topic.
DeleteI actually did my essay early this morning because I had insomnia. I wish I thought my introduction paragraph through because I rushed it. The introduction and the conclusion were actually what I had trouble with. The body was easy to write because it just flowed. I knew what to write for the body because I didn't have to make anything up. For the introduction and conclusion, I had to think of ways to introduce what I was going to write and how to sum it up in a way that it sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I did pretty well on my first test. I thought I wasn't gonna do well because I didn't have a real outline and had to come up with that essay on the spot. I also switched topics mid-essay and I freaked out. The outcome was better than I expected.
I agree that writing introductory and concluding paragraphs for narrative essays are difficult. I had trouble with my narrative essay's introduction and conclusion as well, because I did not know how to end a narrative essay. Additionally, I think that trying to make the introduction and conclusion flow with the rest of the essay is difficult as well.
DeleteI took a while to form my concluding paragraph also. It was already challenging enough to keep my story at a minimum of two pages. A little discomfort does not hurt anyone.
DeleteI was fully prepared for Test#2 because I did the take home. Dialogues empowers narrative essays and it was difficult for me because I am terrible at writing dialogues.
ReplyDeleteI had an anxiety of writing dialogues too, but we were fully prepared. Give applause for both of us!
DeleteI too decided to do the take home test as well. Dialogues do empower the essay and gives more detail too.
DeleteI was prepare for this test. I decided to do the take home test instead of the in class test. The topic I choose was something that really means a lot to me. I wrote about the winning penalty kick. That moment was huge for me because I never get nervous but that moment I was. Also this topic came easy to me. So I was very prepared for this test.
ReplyDeleteMajority of us prefer the take home test instead of in class test after test#1. I am glad that the topic came easy to you.
DeleteI was prepared for this test by finishing it at home. I did not care for the narrative essay. I really despise writing about myself.
ReplyDeleteI was the only on who took the in class test and I felt a bit unprepared. At first, I had no idea what to write about, but later realized that It would not be to difficult to write about my first day of college because my first day of college was not to long ago.I took advantage of that and hoped I did a decent job.
ReplyDeleteI saw that you were having a problem with writing essay when I left class, but It is nice that you wrote about something that you know well.
DeleteGood idea to write about something that happen recently. That way it would come to you easily.
DeleteTaking Test #2 was definitely a lot easier than taking Test #1. And I say this mainly for 2 reasons. First, I am more familiar with the writing process and all that is requires. Secondly, I was able to take advantage of the privileged option of completing the test at home, then submitting it. But due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to attend class yesterday, thus failing to submit my test. But thanks to Dr. Rivera's consideration of my circumstances, I am able to turn it in tomorrow. Thank you so much Dr. Rivera!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The more we do these test we get better at them.
