I think we are a day ahead as far as the topic's of yesterday and today are concerned. We actually reviewed argumentative essay's today, but blogged about it yesterday. Not that it really matters that much, just something I noticed.
ReplyDeleteToday's activities involved a lot of reading and listening, discussion and sharing. We reviewed what an argumentative essay is and then moved on to completing our discussion on stage 3 of the writing process. Part of our discussion on stage 3 of the writing process involved deciphering Betsy Jackson's rough draft, which was fairly interesting. I didn't think it was that important, but as we explored the rough draft, I began to realize and appreciate it's importance.
Today's class activities were very thorough and refreshing.
Now I must complete my brain stretcher..
I was thinking the same thing on how we are a day off.
DeleteI also noticed the change in schedule. It sort of threw me off during class. Thank you Betsy Jackson, you are going to be a great help when writing my essays.
DeleteYeah, the change in our schedule got me wired at first glace, thinking that I was off track. I had a little panic attack, then realized the error, thank goodness. I would have been upset if it was me who was off.
DeleteToday's activities weren't really different from the past few days. We read, listened and discussed our readings and essay assignments to come. I think we are ready to start writing and finalizing our essays come next week. Good Luck all.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we are ready to start writing our essays. However, I am personally not ready to finalize my essay, because I feel as if I make many mistakes. I hope I can fix my mistakes before I finalize my work.
DeleteI am not ready for the finalizing my essay either. I have same feeling as Christina.
DeleteI think we're all ready to murder these essays.
DeleteToday we reviewed the importance of revising or editing your paper before you turn it in. I think it is very important to edit your paper, because even though you may think your paper consists of gold ideas written down from the gods, others might think it needs more revising because it doesn't flow. Editing is a very important part of the writing process. Having a peer review it and edit it can help your paper flow and seem more professional.
ReplyDeleteI agree editing is a very important part of the writing process because it corrects the mistakes you might have done in your rough draft. It is always good to have a peer review because they might find mistakes or errors you missed.
DeleteIn my opinion, editing is a very important stage in the writing process. Editing ensures that our work is coherent and concise. If we do not edit our work, we can easily look over our mistakes, and cannot fix them.
DeleteI did not revise after I wrote final essay when I was taking EN085 in my first year of college, so I had a failing experience. I agree revising and editing are important.
DeleteFiguring out what is due in the next few weeks of class made me feel a bit overwhelmed. During today's class, we discussed the final major essay, argumentative essay, and had an overview of the complete writing process. The writing process worksheet at the end of the chapter will be essential when writing future essays. I am not so confident when writing essays so I am sure the worksheet filled with examples and tips will useful. In today's exercises, we focused on revising and editing our rough draft. I feel I am able to recognize more mistakes in my writing when being peer reviewed. The problems I seem to always have when writing is my choice of words and lack of transitions. I feel as though I am also not being thoroughly detailed when describing certain areas of my essay.
ReplyDeleteDuring today's activities, there was a lot of reading and sharing involved. In my previous school, this was rare so it made me a bit sluggish. Other than the writing process we had our daily brain stretcher.
I agree with feeling overwhelmed. I am just trying to keep writing everyday so the deadlines don't sneak up on me.
DeleteI feel the same way I don't feel confident when writing essays and our exercises we do in class has helped in in my writing. When I have a peer review my essays have less grammatical errors and it's always good to make someone review your work.
DeleteI felt overwhelmed by our workload today, as well. In addition, I think that most of the textbook's guidelines and worksheets will help me when I am planning, writing, and finalizing my essay. I am sure that I would be lost without the guidelines and stages in the textbook.
DeleteYes indeed, after reviewing all that was due in the weeks ahead, I too couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed. The days seem to just fly by. I'm definitely reviewing everything we've learned thus far this weekend. I'm starting to stress out a little with all the required materials and steps per each essay we're due to write.
DeleteIn today's activities we discussed editing our rough draft. I find editing hard for me and I always need someone to review my essay. When I revise and edit my essay I tend to miss key errors and mistakes. Today's activities helped me learn how to edit the future essays I write. Stage three of the writing process is probably the most difficult stage for me and today's activities will help me through this stage.
ReplyDeleteI am the same with revising. I have a hard time with people reading my essays also because I do not want to hear all the things I did wrong. I know it is a normal process of writing so I have many things to work on.
DeleteI agree, Jonah. It took me a while to edit my rough draft alone. I would need someone to review my paper and make their personal fixes.
DeleteI also think that revising rough drafts is difficult. I think it's so difficult, because I tend to think that my essay is as perfect as it can be, when it's not. Hopefully, I can find my mistakes more easily after today's lesson, or find someone else to check my work.
Deletewe have to visit writing center a lot. They really help you to overcome your problems of writing mistake.
DeleteIn today's class, we discussed how to write an argumentative essay. The main points of writing an argumentative essay that stuck out to me were: to write an argumentative essay, we need a clear thesis and relevant sources from reliable sources that support that thesis. Additionally, we furthered our discussion on the third and final stage of writing. Initially, I was confused about the last stage of revision. However, I started to figure out how to effectively edit an essay.
ReplyDeleteThe last stage of the writing process is the most difficult stage for me. Today's activities helped me figure out how to properly and effectively edit my future essays.
DeleteWe are a day off and makes things just a little bit confusing. I really hate having to read my essay stuff. I feel it is not good and I am very critical on myself. I did finish the rough draft of my descriptive essay and have started on my all about me essay. I enjoyed my brain stretcher today because it made me remember a good friend of mine.
ReplyDeleteI was also confused with today's discussions in class. You are not the only feeling discouraged when writing. We can all work together.
DeleteYou are not alone Heather. Like what Casiana said, "we can all work together."
DeleteI, too, get anxiety when I have to share my work. I actually get anxiety whenever I am put on the spot. I have been working on that since I was a child. My voice trembles when I read aloud or share my opinion or work because I am so unsure of everything.
DeleteToday's activities were kind of hard. We had to review our rough draft and edit necessary changes. That process was very time consuming because my rough draft had alot of mistakes. I'm glad I did it because my final draft turned out to be better than I expected.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the activities being difficult. I get such anxiety when it comes to my essays.
DeleteEditing and revising is hard and time consuming for me too. I have a hard time deciding whether to change or correct something in my essay.
DeleteAlthough editing takes up much time, it makes an essay easier to write and finish. Editing makes an essay cleaner and rids it of all errors. I too found today's activities difficult.
DeleteI evaluated myself how my writing level is now from the Analytic Scoring Rubric for Writing. First of all, I want to give level 4 to me for the composing part, I think I am good at making structures when I write essays. Secondly, I think my style is level 2 because I still have a vocabulary problems, so I usually choose easier words when I write essays. Thirdly, I am level 2 for sentence formation. Although I kind of overcame word order part, but I sometimes have problems with grammar. Fourthly, my usage level is 2 because I have some errors with inflections. Finally, my mechanics level is 2 because I sometimes misspell words. About today activities, it was almost same as we have done last few days. I learned how write draft and revise it.
ReplyDeleteToday's activity was moderate. I learned about argumentative essay and how I can write an effective persuasive paper.
ReplyDeleteWe learned a lot this week and I think we are fully prepared for our first essay due on Tuesday.
Whoa! Thanks for the reminder about our essay being due on Tuesday, next week. I was thinking it was actually due on Friday for some reason.
Deleteyou are the most confident person in this class.
DeleteOh shoot, I thought it was due Monday. Where do we upload our essay? I came into class in the midst of that discussion...
DeleteToday we went over the final stage of the writing process. Now we know all the criteria need for turning in our papers. The final stage is all about revising and editing till you have your final product. This stage is the longest process out of all the stages. When you revise and edit you might have to go back several times before your are finally done. Even when you think your done you might want to have a peer review it as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's the longest and the most rigorous stage! It's completely vital to review, edit, and revise an essay. Can you imagine turning in an essay you wrote on the spot?
DeleteI didn't even notice we were off our schedule. I don't think that thorough editing and revising can be done within 10 minutes. I understand we have a set time though but we get off pretty early. I don't even know what happened in that class. I had writer's block. It's so annoying. Nothing significant went from my head, to my hand, to my paper.
ReplyDeleteLike all other days, I enjoyed class. I like the flow and the routine of things. I believe I'm ready to write some papers. In todays activity we had to edit our paper from the pervious day. It's hard to edit your own paper because sometimes we don't know what we did wrong.
