  1. Today's activities were pretty interesting. I prefer to use computers for class. Finally, I got the opportunity to log into our class blog and moodle. I learned the importance of reading/text-based writing. I hope to learn the proper way to write and more. I hope to gain a lot from this class. Peace.

    2. Oops. Sorry, I forgot that we were supposed to reply in Moodle, not the blog.

    3. I agree! I think that using computers for class are very good. I didn't know how to use Moodle and comment on the class blog before class. I'm glad that I learned how to use them.

    4. I am glad to be using my own computer in class. Helps tremendously.

    5. It is a good idea to write a reflection and put a comment on to get other people's thought.

    6. I agree with the preference of computer usage in class! We take advantage of the technology that is offered to us. Also, I think replying and reflecting to the post of our classmates will help us come together as a class!

      Delete
    7. I agree with using computers in class for our activities because it helps us interact with our classmates more. We get to see our classmates ideas or thoughts.

    8. Definitely.. The use of computer in class provides ease of acess to a whole range of academic tools. What I like about it the most is our ability to still learn from each other, long after we've left the classroom.

    9. Using computers for this class makes everything so much easier. Just as Larry said earlier in class today,"I think faster than I write." …Or something in that sense. With our generation being so tech savvy, it's definitely ideal that our class includes the use of technology in this style of learning.

      Delete
    10. I'm glad to be uses computers more too. I feel like using computers makes the class seem shorter and writing seem long (just kidding).

    11. I think how this class is mixing with lecture and online is really interesting. It teaches us different strategy to handle both lecture and online. I believe in the future we will learn a lot from this class.

    12. I've never had a class with this much online/technology use either. I think it really helps create some kind of bond when we voice each other's opinions

  2. I thought today's activity was very aiding because first reading around helps with every bodies reading. Second, we learned more about how to write descriptive essays and supports on text-based writing. I will take this knowledge and best apply to my studies in the future and this class. Lastly, I am looking foward to learning more techniques in becoming a better writer.

    2. I agree that reading out loud helps everyone. I think that reading out loud helps everyone in the class understand and remember the material more than reading them silently. Also, I think reading out loud helps everyone to pay attention during class.

    3. I have always enjoyed writing descriptive essays, but I never really knew what structure it is suppose to be like. So I am glad that we did go over how to write a descriptive essay.

    4. At first, I just had so much anxiety about our class requiring us to read aloud and together, and sharing our work. Now, I'm glad we do. You're all cool and I'm glad I get to get to know you guys, even if it's only for a short while.

    5. I agree with you. i like how we read something thing and we write about it right away. This class makes it easier to learn how to write.

  3. I think today's class discussion was different and unique. I have never had a class where you are this interactive. I like how we brainstorm on a picture we picked, I think it helps us to have a better imagination. Also reading out loud helps my ADHD. Now that we went over how to properly write a summary has improved my summaries now.

    2. I like how this class was interactive, too! I have not learned in an interactive classroom in a very long time. I think that interactive classes engage students more than non-interactive classes.

    3. It's a really good thing you see what helps with your ADHD. As a nurse I have seen people that have a hard time even accepting they have a problem, let alone ways to help it.

    4. I believe that the writing exercises are essential in becoming better writers. It also gives me time to enhance my vocabulary. It is quite interesting how broad my vocabulary is becoming.

    5. I like this new concept of class blogging very interesting and a great way to get the class closer.

    6. I really enjoy all the interaction. The more interaction there is the more fun the class is.

  4. Today's class was very thorough with text-based writing and the introduction to writing a descriptive essay. The activities definitely expounded on those topics more than my high school AP English class did. I guess you can say it's quite helpful or refreshing.

    2. When I was attending high school, in my Composition class, we did not really go over descriptive essays, because we did not have enough time. Additionally, in high school we never went over how to actually write a summary. I agree that today's class was a great refresher.

    3. i am also glad that we go over the descriptive essay. now i know what we will get into with our essay test. i have want to take AP English class at my high school but didn't. this class made me think that i could handle that class.

    4. Its such a cliche thing to say, but never be afraid yo try out new things. We each have boundless capabilities and knowledge that are often unrealized because of our fear of failing. My rule has always been to "try out something new at least once." We will nevet know what we are capable of until we try. I'm happy to know that you have renewed confidence in yourself.

    5. I agree with you Nicole. It was indeed a helpful refresher. I've been out of high school and a classroom setting for a while now, so today's class was indeed refreshing..

    6. I agree with this because going over what an descriptive essay was refreshed my mind. I did learn what a descriptive essay was before this class but I forgot the main guidelines for it. Going over what an descriptive essay was helpful

  5. Today. I was late. I was having a blonde moment and thought class started at 12:30. So, I was confused coming in. Thank you all for being patient with me. I don't really care for the round about reading of material. I don't pay attention much because I reread everything anyway. I am strangely not anxious about this coming up essay after seeing the topics. Also, I am wondering why we had to choose a postcard. My thought as I am writing this that these chairs are terrible for my old lady back, that is already sore from carrying around 50 lbs of book bag.

  6. One of the activities the class did today was Brain Structuring. The photo I got was hundreds of people attending Seattle World's Fair. Families are enjoying the day at the Fair. People are playing games, going on carnival rides, and walking around the Fair.

  7. During today's class, we continued with our previous discussion about the importance of reading techniques and reading-based writing. Our first brain stretcher involved our thoughts and reflections on a chosen postcard. I described the time period and what event was forthcoming. After putting our thoughts on words, we were invited to share them.

  8. Today's class was extremely informative. I have always had problems with being descriptive and getting my point through, but the reading on that one page helped me
understand how to do so better.

    1. Hey Josh,

Its okay. We all go through problems every now and again with writing. It isn't the easiest subject. It's kind of like math for me. I am terrible with math but eventually we get it in the end. Good Luck in class.

    2. I also had problems with descriptive writing. It was one of the most difficult types of writing I struggled with in high school. The past exercises have been a great help.

    3. I have the same problem as well. Descriptive writing is difficult for me because my point never gets across. These exercises we have been doing in class has been helping me and I seem to be getting my point across.

    4. I am pretty sure that we are going to develop our English writing skill eventually. I am looking forward to have a better writing after this summer.

  9. Today's class activities were very enriching to the brain. Even though I am sick, I thought that class was engaging, as we learned about writing descriptive essays Additionally, I thought that my classmates' descriptions of their images were wonderful and descriptive. I think that incorporating description into our activity, the brain stretcher, after learning about descriptive essays was clever. The activity re-enforced what we learned in class in an interesting way.

    1. That is a good thing you were able to do your work while sick. Our brains tend to be very fuzzy while being ill. Hopefully, you are able to get some rest for your body to heal up!

    2. Brainstorming in the beginning so it was kind of fuzzy and hard. But as i continue with it it became easier. Also writing these topics expands my knowledge.

  10. Today's agenda was comprehensive. We learn about descriptive writing as well as post to the moodle site regarding reading-based/text-based writing. Also, we shared our descriptive writing with the class based on the photos provided by Dr. Rivera, which was a good practice.

    1. Sharing what we wrote helps us more to come together as a class and stepping out of our comfort zone. We form relationships and guide each other. I do get more out of this class than just academics.

  11. For our class today, we logged on to the UOG moodle which was interesting because we get share our opinion with the class on why reading/text based is important and then reply to their opinion online. We also learned some of the rules to writing summary. Some of us were given sentence from a summary and had to tell if the sentence applied to any of the rules.

  12. We did Brain Structuring today in class. The photo I picked was the old motel, and it reminds me when I stayed motel in Munich. Although the motel was dirty and old, the people were really nice and friendly. For that reason, the picture reminds me a great moment.

  13. I can't recall whether it was the moodle or the blog (or both) that we were supposed to post in prior to midnight of the assigned posting dates. I've spent nearly 4 hours trying to establish a gmail account in order to access the moodle, as instructed; only to find out that you can use any email account, as long as they are linked to your google account. Pretty frustrating, but then again, I guess that perhaps I mis-heard the instructions. So hear I am at 4 in the morning having realized that I have yet to post my blog in here,.And for that, I apologize sincerely.

Today, or yesterday rather, we explored the fundamentals and importance (support) of Reading-based/Text-based writing, along with an overview of Descriptive Essay writing. The former subject was rather useful in reiterating various basic skills in composition and comprehension. The later,an overview of Descriptive Essay, was rather insightful in defining what relates to such essay's. I especially liked the class assignment where we chose a certain postcard and in our own words, describe all that is present in each respective postcard. That was rather fun and allows oneself to actually think. I like hands-on exercises, such as that assignment. We should have more like it..

    Just a thought..

  14. I was unable to make it to the first day of class due to medical reasons. Although I didn't make it to the first day of class or the second, I did make it to the third ( and the I left). Overall I really like this class and I know it's going to be a good summer. I like the class even though I'm not a big fan of writing.

  15. Actually I think I did not put a command about the first class. And here is my comment. I will learn about how to write the essay better in the future, as long as I keep doing the work that assigned, I will be okay,
